This site is at a location where I often played as a child. Currently, there are three Childcare Centres, two Aged Care Centres and one Retirement Village close to it. Such welfare facilities are scarce in the demographic makeup of Springvale and Clayton South and can be limited in quality welfare programs. This is a gap in community welfare that can contribute to improved human health and well-being.
This integral gap will be filled through objectives that are achieved in qualitative and some quantitative psychological research. Combined with the application of Biophilic Patterns, and design strategies, the commonalities shared between young children and elderly groups within these programs will inspire one integrated landscape design intervention with specialised cohort activities that merge these three Childcare, Aged Care and Retirement Village programs together.
The main aims will be to provide learning connections between young children and older people within a unified site, namely the Bio-Middle Ground which will gain a greater sense of worth and minimise loneliness in the older groups, and teach children respect and appreciations of older people.
